Our Lady of Sorrows Church Hebbagodi Celebrating the fatherhood in Christ following the footsteps of our patron St. Joseph, the members of Pithruvedi strive to celebrate the Christian principles in the contemporary age. Pithruvedi at Our Lady of Sorrows church Hebbagodi is blessed with a group of very vibrant and active group of fathers under the able leadership of Rev. Fr. Lalu Thadathilankal. We started our unity with a sole belief to unify the married Catholic men, head of the families and guiding force of our parish.
The Pithruvedi members gather on the first Sunday of the month after the holy mass and discuss about the activities to be conducted in the upcoming parish activities. The meetings conducted regularly becomes a platform for the members to come together, discuss about the areas of concern, brainstorm to get more ideas to improve the spiritual as well as the material requirements of the parishners. Here are a few of the initiatives taken by the members and executed successfully.
We are proud to be a team, which is ready to take up any initiatives for the benefit of the parishners, in the day today activities of the church and the society at large in times of need. We are a determined group of people pledged to be in the service and betterment of the civic and social needs of the society, especially our parish. The members take part in all the activities of the parish with full spirit and have made an effective mark in the parish with our enthusiasm to serve others. We have organised at least a program in a month for the parish for the benefits of parishners from the beginning of 2019.
Annual Meeting
On 30 June 2024, Sunday after the 9 AM Holy Mass, the annual meeting was held in the presence of Rev. Fr. Riju. Parish activities were discussed, and decisions were made regarding upcoming responsibilities. In the same meeting, the old trustees and the new trustees were given flowers and officially approved.
Vocation Promotion Seminar
The Pithruvedi Central Committee organized a Vocation Promotion Seminar for catechism children on 28 July 2025 at Hongasandra Forane Parish. Under the leadership of Rino George, the Vocation Promotion Coordinator of our parish, with support from the catechism department children from our parish participated actively and benefited. Pithruvedi arranged for the travel facility for the students.
Pithruvedi Day & Prayer Meetings
Representatives from our parish actively participated in all meetings organized by the Pithruvedi Central Committee, including the Pithruvedi Day gathering held on November 1. OLS Unit President, Reji Sebastian presented the annual parish reports.
Online Bible Class Participation
Parish member Mr. Varghese Thattil successfully attended and passed the online Bible class examination conducted by Pithruvedi Central Committee and received a certificate. Congratulations from Pithruvedi.
Fundraising for Church Construction
For the financial support of the new church construction, fund-raising programs were held. The Sunday Food Court activity was conducted this year as well. The profit from this was handed over to the Church Construction Fund. Similarly, the Onam stalls were run jointly by the Pithruvedi and Mathruvedi on all Sundays before Onam. A total profit of ₹39,000 was handed over to the Construction Fund. During the Onam celebration arranged at Ananth Nagar Mahendra Residency Apartments, parish trustees , counsellors, and pious associations from our parish put up a Food Court. A total profit of ₹18,000 was handed over to the Construction Fund. For Christmas , Pithruvedi and Mathruvedi jointly sold Christmas stars, and ₹10,000 profit was added to the Construction Fund.
Parish Onam Celebration
The parish Onam celebrations were a great success. Pithruvedi played a major role in Onam Sadhya meal distribution and overall coordinated with other pious associations.
Parish Feast
As part of the parish feast on 21 September, Pithruvedi members performed a skit and managed food counters. They also provided butter milk distribution on Sunday after procession and assisted with post-mass snehavirunnu . Pithruvedi helped on parish annual retreat and catechism children retreat.
Due to some reasons, Treasurer Joby George stepped down. With parish priest approval, Rino George was selected as the new treasurer and Aneem as the Joint treasurer.
Inter-Parish Basketball Tournament
On 24 November 2024, under the leadership of Pithruvedi Joint Secretary Jenson Joseph, a team from our parish participated in the OLS Youth Inter-Parish Basketball Tournament and delivered an excellent performance.
Mandya Diocese Cricket Tournament
In the Punyalan Premier League 2025 Inter-Parish Tournament conducted by St. Augustine Church, Marianahalli, Pithruvedi members from our parish participated and secured the 2nd Runner-Up position. Congratulatons to all the team members, cordinators .
Holy Week Services
During Holy Week, Pithruvedi arranged butter milk distribution after Palm Sunday procession and Good Friday ‘s way of the cross and supported adoration services. On Maundy Thursday, they prepared a themed presentation of Last supper with youth assistance, creating a memorable experience for all.
Dn. Asher’s Ordination
On 26 April 2025, the parish celebrated the ordination of Dn. Asher. Pithruvedi coordinated various programs with the support of pious associations.
Parking & Vehicle Arrangement
For feast days and other Sundays, Pithruvedi arranged vehicle movement and parking facilities for the parish community.
Bereavement Support
Pithruvedi members supported families during the funeral ceremonies of parishioners who passed away this year.
Gratitude
In all parish activities entrusted by the trustees and vicar to pithruvedi, every responsibility were carried out with dedication and excellence . The success of all Pithruvedi activities was possible only because of the wholehearted support of all parish members, trustees, counsellors and pious associations. Special thanks to other pious associations, priests, trustees and council members for their cooperation. Above all, our heartfelt thanks to our directors Fr. Riju and Fr. Robin for their guidance, love, and support.
